Dodgers’ Dave Roberts Provides Huge Update on Freddie Freeman’s Injury

The Los Angeles Dodgers took care of business in Tokyo, starting the season with a two-game sweep of the Chicago Cubs overseas. However, the defending champions were without World Series MVP Freddie Freeman.

The Dodgers superstar was scratched from the Dodgers’ Opening Day lineup with left rib discomfort. The injury is in the same location as Freeman’s previous rib injury, which he dealt with throughout the postseason.

On Wednesday, Freeman arrived to the Tokyo Dome early to undergo treatment and showed progress.

Manager Dave Roberts explained why the team chose to keep Freeman out of the lineup for the Tokyo Series.

“He lobbied hard, like he always does,” Roberts said. “He wants to play every day. He kind of prepared to play, but ultimately conceded to myself and the training staff.

“It’s just too early in the season to potentially put him in harm’s way.”

However, the Dodgers are not concerned with the superstar’s recovery as he is expected to be ready to face the Los Angeles Angels during the Freeway Series.

Freeman wasn’t the only Dodgers star sidelined in Japan. Mookie Betts is dealing with a rather severe illness that prevented him from playing in the Tokyo Series. Betts was even sent home early in order to recover.

Betts is expected to be ready by the Dodgers’ domestic Opening Day against the Detroit Tigers. Hopefully, fans will get to see a regular Dodgers lineup by March 27.
