Dodgers’ Dave Roberts Provides Latest Michael Kopech Injury Update

The Los Angeles Dodgers have been without one of the most productive relievers of 2024 in Michael Kopech.

After being acquired at the trade deadline, Kopech threw a 1.13 ERA in 24 appearances on the way to the World Series. In October, Kopech threw a 3.00 ERA over 10 outings, including 10 strikeouts over nine total innings despite forearm discomfort.

Although he didn’t miss time in 2024, he has started 2025 on the injured list. The recovery was also slowed due to the stomach bug that most notably Mookie Betts was dealing with in Japan, and Kiké Hernández also missed time with.

Kopech still understood the sacrifice of missing early regular season games in 2025 was less important than the October contests he battled through. He even has his sights set on the upcoming postseason as well.

“I wasn’t wanting to miss any time this year but the priority for me was the end of the season last year and the end of the season this year,” Kopech said.

Per the Orange County Register’s Doug Padilla, manager Dave Roberts gave the latest update on the right-hander after a 30-pitch bullpen on Thursday with another scheduled for next week.

“Roberts said Kopech could move to pitching live batting practice after Monday’s bullpen. A minor-league rehab assignment would follow that step,” said Padilla.

Given how great he was in the back half of 2024 for L.A., not to mention the 12 Dodgers pitchers currently serving time on the injured list, Kopech’s return will be highly anticipated.

Kopech looks to join the pivotal Dodgers pitchers Clayton Kershaw and Tony Gonsolin on Triple-A assignments as the two are getting closer to a return to the majors. The first step will be improving to a live batting practice and continuing to demonstrate his forearm health.
