Dodgers Fans Pick Player of the Week: Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto or Max Muncy?

It’s been an up-and-down week for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The week started with the Boys in Blue dropping the final game of the Freeway Series in a 13-5 drubbing by the crosstown Angels.

After a big win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday, the Dodgers blew a 6-1 lead on Wednesday.

The Boys in Blue took the series, but they then lost two of three against the White Sox in Chicago.

Despite the uneven performances, Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Max Muncy all performed well, but there can only be one player of the week.

We put that question to fans, and you came back with a resounding answer.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto was nearly perfect

On Saturday, Yamamoto nearly made history.

He had a perfect game through 7.2 innings before an error by Mookie Betts, then took a no-hitter into the ninth inning.

In his 8.1 innings, he threw 109 pitches, striking out seven while allowing only that one hit, though it was a solo home run. He also had zero walks.

Fans honor Yoshinobu Yamamoto’s incredible outing

With a performance like that, it’s no wonder fans overwhelmingly backed Yamamoto for player of the week.

“Gotta be Yamamoto!” wrote @michael.gingras.

“Yamamoto for almost getting a no-hitter,” said @suttajit.

“All three looked fantastic this week, but i’ve got to say Yamamoto! He was on fire against the White Sox,” wrote @boodinfluence.

As that last commenter noted, all three players were excellent, with Ohtani striking out six during his start against the Pirates while also hitting .313 for the week with three home runs and six RBIs for a 1.480 OPS.

Muncy also excelled at the plate, hitting .389 with two homers, six RBIs and an OPS of 1.410.

As impressive as Ohtani’s and Muncy’s week was, though, it’s hard to argue with what Yamamoto did, even if he came up just short a truly monumental achievement.
