Shohei Ohtani Leads MLB in All-Star Votes at 1st Update

Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani has the most votes of any player in MLB’s first All-Star Ballot update.

Ohtani has accrued 1,165,133 votes since voting opened, edging out the Houston Astros’ Yordan Alvarez (1,015,768) for the most votes. Surprisingly, Ohtani has never finished the voting cycle as MLB’s leading All-Star vote-getter.

The two-way star has won five fan votes in a row, and it’s no wonder why. Over the last several seasons, he has been arguably the best player in the world.

This year is no exception, as he has taken things to a new level on the mound. Ohtani has made just 11 starts as a pitcher, but he has made the most of every appearance in 2026. He has a 1.06 ERA on the season, and has struck out 73 batters in 67.2 innings.

His ERA sat below 1 for the entirety of the season until his most recent start, where he allowed three earned runs—a season high.

At the plate, Ohtani is just as impressive as he has been for the past few seasons. He has a .975 OPS through 69 games, hitting 14 homers and driving in 41 RBIs. He’s batting over .300, and leads the National League in OPS.

Which Other Dodgers Are Leading Their Positions in Votes?

As always, the Dodgers are dominating the fan vote and have plenty of players in the running to make Phase 2 of All-Star voting.

Other than Ohtani, three Dodgers currently lead their position in votes. Freddie Freeman holds the lead among NL first basemen, Max Muncy leads at third base and Andy Pages leads all NL outfielders.

In addition to those three, though, some surprise Dodgers have found their way towards the top in other positions.

Second baseman Hyeseong Kim, who is currently with Triple-A Oklahoma City, is currently fourth in votes at his position, shortstop Mookie Betts is second in voting and just 12,000 votes behind CJ Abrams and Teoscar Hernandez ranks fifth among outfielders.

Phase 1 voting ends June 25 at 12:00 p.m. ET, so fans still have 10 days to vote for their favorite Dodgers to make the Midsummer Classic.

  1. What about Smith? Did I miss something or are they just going on recent batting average?
