Dodgers Have Justin Bruihl on Taxi Squad ‘In Case’ Clayton Kershaw Has to Go on Injured List
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts provided an update on Clayton Kershaw’s potential injury on Wednesday. Kershaw, who left Tuesday’s win after just six innings and 79 pitches, was unspecific after Tuesday’s game, saying he “just needed to come out right there” and thinks he’ll be alright to make his next start.
He said he would provide an update on Wednesday, however, he hasn’t yet spoken to the media. Instead, Roberts provided an update, but didn’t say much outside of clarifying the injury is “not his back.”
#Dodgers Dave Roberts said Clayton Kershaw came to the park and did some running, worked out today. Would not be any more specific about what issue was last night but did say “It’s not his back.”

Additionally, Roberts confirmed that LHP Justin Bruihl is on the taxi squad “in case” Kershaw is placed on the injured list.

This is definitely a concerning update, as Kershaw is 35 years old and at any point could find himself on a long IL stint. This year, he’s already thrown 95.1 innings, after throwing just 126.1 innings all of last season.
Kershaw is a leading National League Cy Young candidate at this point in the season, and seems like a lock to make his 10th All-Star team. Most importantly, though, the Dodgers need him healthy and he’s been by far their best and most consistent starting pitcher all year long.
We’ll continue to update you on Kershaw’s status when we know more, but for now, the Dodgers are being awfully cautious with how they’re talking about the injury.
