Dodgers Highlights: Chris Taylor Powers LA Over Crying Padres, May Cruises in Win
No need to cry, Dodgers Nation, the boys in blue beat the Padres on Saturday night to even the series at 1-1. Chris Taylor proved to be the hero of the game with his 6th home run of the year. Dustin May was electric in picking up his 4th win of the season in the 2-1 win.

May and Blake Snell were locked in a pitcher’s duel for the first 3 innings before the Dodgers got cooking in the 4th. Will Smith worked a 2 out walk, setting the stage for this from Chris Taylor.
May mostly kept the Padres off the basepaths in his 6 innings. He allowed just 4 base runners — 3 hits, 1 walk and even worked around a couple plays that the Dodgers would probably have done differently if they could. But that’s being nit-picky.
After a tough stretch over his last 4 starts, it was an important game for Dustin.
The Dodgers got things cooking again in the 8th inning when Miguel Rojas, Freddie Freeman, and Will Smith loaded the bases with 2 outs for Taylor… who flied out to center on the first pitch to end the threat.
The Padres got on the board in the bottom of the 8th after back to back doubles off Brusdar Graterol.
LA had another threat brewing in the top of the 9th but couldn’t add the insurance run.
Evan Phillips earned the save in the 9th, working around a walk to strike out the side.
For those fans in the comments, the Dodgers are 1-0 without Dave Roberts as the manager and undefeated in the Danny Lehmann era.
Dodgers Pitching
Dustin May picked up his 4th win of the season, needing 98 pitches to get through 6 shutout innings. He allowed 3 hits and a walk while striking out 6.
May also got Pads catcher Brett Sullivan to swing and strike out on a pitch that hit him.
Caleb Ferguson tossed a clean 7th before Brusdar Graterol struggled for his second straight outing.
After back to back doubles to open the 8th, Graterol was able to limit the damage to just one run with three straight groundouts.
Evan Phillips came on to close the game out in the 9th, earning his 4th save of the season while having us all holding on to our butts.
