Dodgers Hire Farhan Zaidi in Front Office Role
The Los Angeles Dodgers have hired Farhan Zaidi as a special advisor, per The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya. Zaidi will also be assisting Dodgers owner Mark Walter in other sports interests such as the Los Angeles Sparks and Chelsea Football Club.
In December, there was speculation Zaidi would return to the Dodgers front office after being fired by the San Francisco Giants.
Zaidi, who was hired as the team’s president of baseball operations before the 2019 season and fired by the Giants in September, was replaced by San Francisco’s beloved former catcher Buster Posey. Zaidi spent six seasons with the Gants, in that time, the team finished with a winning record in only one season of Zaidi’s tenure.
Zaidi spent four seasons as the Dodgers’ general manager from 2015-18 under president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman. With Zaidi in the front office, the Dodgers made their first World Series appearance in almost three decades.
The Dodgers lost both the 2017 and 2018 World Series with Zaidi as general manager of the team. However, throughout Zaidi’s four seasons in L.A., the Dodgers won the division every season, claimed their first pennant in 29 years, and saw three young players flourish in Corey Seager, Cody Bellinger, and Walker Buehler.
Once Zaidi left L.A., the general manager role was vacant from 2018-21. Brandon Gomes then assumed the role and has since helped Friedman build baseball’s next dynasty.
In a golden era of Dodger baseball, the defending champions have picked up another free agent in Zaidi this winter.
