Dodgers Injury News: RHP Gus Varland Lands on the IL With Knee Issue
Before first pitch on Sunday morning, the Dodgers announced a roster move. The club placed rookie reliever Gus Varland on the injured list with knee inflammation one night after an awkward play at the plate on a wild pitch that ended Saturday night’s game. It was not revealed whether that play led to the IL move.
Veteran reliever Wander Suero was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City for the first time since May.
Here’s a look at the play that ended the game on Saturday night.
Suero has struggled in 4 games with the Dodgers this season, allowing 6 runs over 6.2 innings. However, he’s been solid at AAA all season, posting a 3.40 ERA over 45 games. He’s also picked up 16 saves for the Oklahoma City club.
With Joe Kelly returning this coming week, Suero doesn’t figure to be around for long.
Varland has a 3.09 ERA in 8 games since returning to the Dodgers this summer.
