Dodgers Introduce Dave Roberts as Manager
Tuesday afternoon, dozens of media members gathered at Chavez Ravine as the Los Angeles Dodgers prepared to introduce their new manager: Dave Roberts.
He was obviously extremely excited for the opportunity, and said plenty to have fans at something close to a similar level of excitement about the direction he hopes to take the team.
ICYMI: Why The Dodgers Shouldn’t Trade Yasiel Puig
He opened the presser as such:
“A huge day for me, and my family.” – Dave Roberts, after shaping the bill of his cap. He’ll wear number 30.

As he folded his cap he mentioned how his son (who looks insanely like his father) would probably prefer a flatter bill, which drew laughs from the crowd on hand.
He was flanked on either side by Farhan Zaidi and Andrew Friedman, and, of course, Magic Johnson presented Roberts’ jersey, dwarfing everyone at the podium. You honestly couldn’t help but feel some level of happiness for Roberts and his family, as well as the rest of the organization present that day.
He spoke about everything from being the franchise’s first minority manager to Vin Scully calling him on the day of Scully’s birthday (Sunday).
“On a lazy Sunday afternoon… I knew it was Vin Scully. I knew it was his birthday.” – Roberts on when Scully called him.

When Scully reaches out to Roberts, “It was very humbling and that says something about his character. It was a big moment for me.”

Like we’ve said previously, we don’t want to sound too rah rah about the hiring. There are some worries about what all he brings to the table (or the lack thereof). For now, though, we’re content to simply congratulate Roberts on a dream come true.
Congratulations, Dave, now you and the rest of the organization can get to work.
