Dodgers: Justin Turner Out of Lineup, Mookie Betts Back in After Sickness

The Dodgers return home to Dodger Stadium today, welcoming the Chicago Cubs for 4 games. For game number 1, leadoff man Mookie Betts returns to the lineup while Justin Turner gets a day off.

Before the game, Dave Roberts called it a scheduled off day for Turner. As for Mookie, he missed Wednesday night’s game and was removed early on Tuesday night while he dealt with flu-like symptoms. He received fluids via IV drip last night and returned to Los Angeles ahead of the team to help mitigate the spread of his sickness.

Walker Buehler is on the mound for the Dodgers tonight and facing Chicago right-hander Zach Davies. Today’s game also marks the first time that long-time Dodger outfielder Joc Pederson returns to Dodger Stadium where he will receive his 2020 World Series ring on the field before the game.

Clayton Kershaw, JT, and Cody Bellinger will be part of the presentation.

  1. I disagree with Roberts. Justin Turner is a key player in the line-up. Removing him for a rest, really this is baseball not hard labor. We have to play harder than ever and testing the waters for a rest. Please spare me. You still have not figured out the order for your line-up yet. When you subtract Turner and Smith you loose power. I am beginning to see Zach as a slugger. I forgot his last name! Removing Betts yesterday probably cost us the game. Getting Bellinger back will help a lot. Seager hand must have take a bad hit as he has been out for 5 weeks. Will see

  2. Buehler is a incredible pitcher. Just give him a few runs and he will do the rest. I worry about Lux as he needs to hit the ball consistently. I do see he draws walks as Muncy does so we shall see. Barnes’s average speaks for himself. We need to be challenged more. Get your rest on travel days. How long will it take to get Bellinger to connect and Seager too.

  3. Day off? He just had 2 days off before the Padres series. Must be a union clause. A supposedly world class pro athlete can’t play 3rd base on a regular bases? That’s a great part-time contract! When you’re healthy, you should be playing because you’re downgrading the team for as when you are really hurt and out. Now if you play a demanding position, like catching, then you deserve a day off now and then. Cal Ripken Jr., and Ernie Banks( let’s play two) never takes days off. Need to put the strongest line up against the teams contending for playoffs.

  4. When good teams come to town, fans are forking out hard earned monies to see the regulars play and the team put out a formidable line-up to compete. You can always rest guys w/ weaker opponents, on travel days, or if they are ailing, but when healthy you must earn your pay. Especially now on a embarrassing offensive no- show, you have to play the ones who’s hot.

    1. Fans, what do you think ? Or are you satisfied spending your money and time on a team that are not competing as a champion?
