Dodgers Met With Shohei Ohtani at Dodger Stadium, Says Dave Roberts
The Los Angeles Dodgers met with Shohei Ohtani last week at Dodger Stadium. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters on Tuesday.
The meeting went well, according to Roberts.
Roberts then made it crystal clear that Shohei is the Dodgers’ “top priority” this offseason.
It’s very rare Roberts or the Dodgers’ front office say anything about their free agency plans, so Roberts seems to be trying a new strategy here in laying the team’s cards out on the table.
The Dodgers have made no secret that they’re all in on Ohtani this offseason, and according to reports, they remain one of the frontrunners to sign him.
It was reported that any leaks regarding meetings would hurt a team, but Roberts isn’t an idiot. Clearly he knows telling reporters about this meeting will not hurt the Dodgers’ chances, thus he’s being a little extra candid with their process.
Several recent reports have indicated Ohtani has narrowed his focus to four or five finalists. It’s nice to know the meeting went well, and let’s hope the Dodgers did enough to convince Shohei to come to LA.
