Dodgers Rumors: Shohei Ohtani Plans to Hold Secret Free Agent Meetings

The biggest goal for the Dodgers this offseason is figuring out a way to get two-way superstar free agent Shohei Ohtani to sign with them. They are expected to be aggressive in doing so, and LA needs him, in a way.

We have heard all sorts of rumors about Ohtani and all the interested teams, but nothing concrete has come about. And it seems that there is a reason for that fact.

MLB insider Jeff Passan of ESPN is reporting that Ohtani and his camp want to keep free agent meetings secretive, and they will hold any leaks against teams.

“If there is one thing to know about Shohei Ohtani’s free agency, it’s that you are unlikely to know much about it until he signs somewhere,” Passan wrote. “If visits between Ohtani and a team are reported publicly, it will be held against the team, so the circles will be tiny and tight.”

Per Jeff Passan of ESPN.com

Ohtani has never been a big fan of people knowing what he is doing, so this falls in line with how he has shown himself to be over his career. He likely wants to make his decision without media interference, and that is his choice that teams must respect.

He is unlike any free agent we have ever seen before, so this isn’t surprising. This is also why we likely haven’t heard about him meeting with any teams so far.

The Dodgers remain the favorites to land the two-way superstar, but nobody will really know until it becomes official. The front office is doing what it can to sign him this offseason, and the belief is that they are in a good position to do so.

Ohtani would thrive playing in the city of Los Angeles, both on and off the field. Fans have high expectations for LA to land him, and hopefully, he is wearing a Dodgers jersey for the foreseeable future.
