Dodgers’ Miguel Rojas Compares Shohei Ohtani to Ronald Acuña Jr.
Shohei Ohtani left a few of his teammates in awe after taking a round of batting practice Wednesday.
He hit 10 home runs in 29 swings. For Miguel Rojas, the BP round reminded him of Atlanta Braves outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr.
Rojas and Acuña Jr. were teammates in the Venezuelan Winter League.
Both Ohtani and Acuña Jr. were unanimously chosen Most Valuable Player of their respective leagues last season. Now, both are in the National League.
Ohtani won’t be pitching this season, but his offensive numbers will keep him in the MVP conversation in 2024 if he can repeat or better his production from last season.
In his final season with the Angels, Ohtani blasted 44 home runs, stole 20 bases and led qualified hitters with a 179 wRC+.
Acuña became the first member of the 30-home run and 60-stolen base club and then turned himself into the founding member of the 40-home run and 70-stolen base club. His 41 homers and 73 stolen bases, plus 217 hits and 149 runs, are unheard of in any era.
But if Rojas sees Acuña Jr. in an injured Ohtani, then who is left to compare with a healthy Ohtani?
Perhaps the Dodgers will find out once he is healthy.
