Player of the Day – Carlos Frias
First, an exciting day as the Ogden Raptors began their 2014 campaign. Unfortunately, it began with a loss. Despite a strong start from Abdiel Velasquez, the bullpen imploded in the final three innings. Cody Bellinger and Julian Leon were mentioned by manager Jack McDowell as players to follow and I’d have to agree.
Now, onto Frias. The 24-year-old was someone I projected as fitting into the bullpen eventually. However, the Dodgers have other plans, as he’s been in the rotation for the Isotopes to begin the season. The results have been mixed, as he’s shown good control and kept the ball on the ground, but failed to miss bats as opponents are hitting .311 against him. His stuff plays up out of the pen, so I still believe he’ll end up as a reliever.
