Dodgers Monitoring Shortstop Trade Market, Willy Adames and Bo Bichette Names to Watch

As the offseason gets going, the Dodgers are hopeful that injured shortstop Gavin Lux will be able to return at the start of next season. Lux missed the entire year after getting hurt during Spring Training, but he has continued to progress well and is on track for a 2024 return.

The Dodgers are hoping that Lux is able to return to full health, but the team is also doing their due diligence at the shortstop position. According to MLB Insider Juan Toribio of MLB.com, LA is looking at the trade market, specifically at two players.

“The Dodgers, however, will continue to monitor the trade market for a shortstop, mainly Milwaukee’s Willy Adames and Toronto’s Bo Bichette.”

Per Juan Toribio of MLB.com

If the Dodgers want to give themselves peace of mind at the position, we could see them making a trade for one of these guys. Both would take over the shortstop spot, likely moving Lux over to second base.

Adames has been a target of the Dodgers for quite some time now, and he would be a great get for them. Last season with the Milwaukee Brewers, he hit .217 with 24 home runs and 80 runs batted in.

He will be entering his final year of arbitration before he hits free agency, so LA could use this season to see if they view him long-term. If not, they can let him go after the year, or trade him at the deadline.

As for Bichette, he hit .306 with 20 home runs and 73 runs batted in for the Toronto Blue Jays. He is an interesting name to watch because he is under contract for another two seasons, something LA values a ton.

Toronto may be hesitant to move him, but they have underperformed in recent years, so maybe they want to shake things up. He would be an incredible get for this team this winter.

Either way, it seems that LA wants to make sure they have a contingency plan for the shortstop position. The team knows that they need to upgrade all across the roster, and this is just one of multiple routes they can take.

  1. There are more important needs to use their trade chips for. Lux, Rojas, Chris Taylor are under contract. Kike may come back too. What would Toronto want? The article does not say. Adames (.214) does not seem to be an improvement.

  2. I hope the Toronto Blue Jays don’t trade Bo Bichette cause he’s my favorite player!

  3. If the Dodgers were really paying attention to the shortstop market they wouldn’t have let both Seager and Turner walk.
