The Los Angeles Dodgers returned from Australia on Sunday and held their first workout back in the U.S. on Tuesday. Getting back on the field came with bad news however, as Clayton Kershaw experienced tightness in his back, which an MRI later revealed inflammation. Kershaw was subsequently scratched from his scheduled start on Sunday and after some initial uncertainty, it appears Hyun-Jin Ryu will start in his place.
Returning stateside provided an opportunity for manager Don Mattingly and Yasiel Puig to clear the air following Mattingly’s critical comments of the outfielder’s mistakes in Australia. What was believed to be a meeting between Mattingly and Puig in fact included the entire team. Puig was reportedly receptive to his teammate’s opinions and asked that they help with his development.
