Dodgers News: Amed Rosario Officially With LA, Yonny Hernandez Optioned

In case you hadn’t already heard, the Los Angeles Dodgers made a notable deal on Wednesday as they sent struggling pitcher Noah Syndergaard to the Cleveland Guardians in exchange for shortstop Amed Rosario.

And now Rosario has officially joined the roster. The shortstop was activated on Friday and infielder Yonny Hernandez was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City in a corresponding move.

Hernandez was technically optioned on Thursday.

The acquisition of Rosario is the Dodgers’ second big move before next Tuesday’s trade deadline, joining utility man Kiké Hernandez. Hernandez came back to LA from the Boston Red Sox in a homecoming of sorts after previously spending six seasons with the Dodgers.

In Rosario, the Dodgers received a speedy shortstop with a good glove that should provide more stability in the middle of the team’s infield.

Additionally, he should provide more of an offensive threat at the position, as he’s slashing .265/.306/.369 this season. When compared to Miguel Rojas’ .221/.279/.268 line, Rosario is a sizable upgrade in that department, even though the newest Dodger is going through a down season by his standards.

It’ll be intriguing to see what Rosario’s role in LA will be, but the 27-year-old figures to become the everyday shortstop going forward given Rojas’ inconsistency in his second stint with the team.

The additions of Rosario and Hernandez will help patch a hole in LA’s infield, and the additions Lance Lynn and Joe Kelly should be a boost on the pitching side of things. So far the first place team has done well leading up to the August 1 trade deadline.
