Dodgers News And Rumors: Don Mattingly Likes Yasiel Puig Batting Third
Yasiel Puig began his sophomore facing questions as to whether or not he could evolve as a player and adjust to the pitching he was sure to face now that there was more film available on him.
During Spring Training, manager Don Mattingly discussed his right fielder and projected down the line in Puig’s career he would likely develop into a ‘RBI guy’, but for the Los Angeles Dodgers this season, he would bat first or second in the lineup.
Puig’s has shown the ability to be a clutch hitter with runners in scoring position and as a result, Mattingly has moved him down to third in the lineup. When discussing the change, Mattingly said he prefers to have Puig bat third, followed by Hanley Ramirez and Adrian Gonzalez as it forces opponents to make a difficult decision on how to use their left-handed pitchers.
