Dodgers News: Andrew Friedman Says ‘Some Really Talented Pitchers’ Will be Left Off Postseason Roster

In a five-game series like the NLDS, choosing 13 pitchers is difficult. While the Los Angeles Dodger starting rotation has been decimated by injuries and legal problems, the team still does have an embarrassment of pitching depth in the organization. They will be leaving off some talented pitchers of the NLDS roster.

Andrew Friedman addressed the media after Wednesday’s workout, which was open to select season-ticket holders.

“We’re still having a lot of internal conversations about it,” Friedman said. “No matter how it shakes out we’re going to have a really talented pitching staff. There’s going to be tough decisions and probably some really talented pitchers that won’t make this roster. And I think it just speaks to the depth, the number of guys who really stepped up this year.

“We may have to approach it in a more unconventional way, but our talent and depth that we have, we feel really good about.”

Neither Friedman nor Dave Roberts could make informed decisions until they knew which team the Dodgers were going to face. On Wednesday, the Arizona Diamondbacks completed their sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Wild Card round.

Since the Diamondbacks don’t have many left-handed power hitters, the Dodgers might consider leaving off one of Alex Vesia or Caleb Ferguson for the series. They won’t need 3 long relievers in the bullpen, so they might leave off both Michael Grove and Gavin Stone. Dodger fans must remember they can reset their roster for the NLCS and the World Series.

On Thursday, Roberts told reporters the team would not make its final decision until early Saturday.
