Dodgers News: Blake Treinen Reveals Why He Didn’t Pitch Down the Stretch of 2023

At DodgerFest on Saturday, relief pitcher Blake Treinen addressed the media for the first time in a while. Treinen, 35, has struggled to stay on the field for the past two years.

He missed the majority of 2022 and all of 2023, dealing with multiple shoulder injuries. In Nov. 2022, he underwent surgery to repair the labrum and rotator cuff in his right shoulder.

Last year, reports circulated that the right-hander could make a return to the club late in the season. After a few rehab starts, the Dodgers shut him down, ending his 2023 season before it began.

When asked about why he could not return last year, Treinen said he “didn’t feel right.”

Now, after a full year of recovery and a normal offseason, Treinen looks to make a return to the Dodgers bullpen. During his time with Los Angeles, he has been one of the most reliable late-game relievers for the team. In Dodger Blue, he has a 2.45 ERA and 1.010 WHIP in 103.0 innings.

Treinen could have a major role to play for L.A. in 2024. Not only could he be the team’s best reliever, but his performance could dictate if Evan Phillips can resume his role as the team’s fireman.

  1. Blake Treinen can and I believe be a main bullpen guy for the Dodgers.
He has natural movement on his pitches that is very tough to hit.
I believe if he is able to get his speed back after surgery now by building his strength back
The Dodgers will be back to having the bullpen that will carry them through to a Championship.
