Dodgers News: Daniel Hudson Optimistic He Can Return This Season

The Dodgers have had their issues with injuries and inconsistent play this season, but things seem to be finally looking up.

LA has won 17 of 19 games in the month of August, and they are rolling right now. They hold a massive 11.5 game lead in the National League West, and things are looking good for them to clinch another playoff spot.

However, they are still missing a few of their relied-upon relievers in the bullpen — one of which has been out for the last month-plus dealing with an injury.

Veteran Daniel Hudson made his return to the team in July after a year of rehab with an injury. Unfortunately, he hurt himself again just a few games into his return, but there is hope that he can make his way back this season. He spoke to Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register about his optimism in returning this season.

“I don’t want to kick the can too far down the road. It’s just one step at a time,” Hudson said. “But there’s a lot of optimism right now that I could return before the end of the season. We’re not going to try and put a date on it. I would ideally like to get into a handful of games before the playoffs. Get my feet underneath me. I feel like I could help this team in the playoffs.”

If Hudson could return, it would provide LA with another arm to use come playoff time. He was a trusted member of the Dodgers bullpen last season prior to his injury, and he looked good in the limited time he had this year.

He pitched three innings, striking out five batters and allowing just two hits. It was an impressive showing before the injury, but the hope is he can make a difference down the line.

However, despite the hopefulness, Hudson wants to make sure that he is good to go. He doesn’t want to just be given a roster spot.

”But I also don’t want to be just thrown out there and take up a roster spot from someone else who could give them more consistency because I’ve thrown in so few games this year. Like I said, it’s cautious optimism. But right now it’s looking pretty strong.”

Getting Hudson back would be incredible and also a great story. If he does return this season, hopefully, he can remain healthy and help this team try to win another World Series.
