Dodgers News: Betts, Freeman Have ‘Intrinsic Desire’ to Make Teammates Better, Says Roberts

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has been very complimentary of his team lately. He went as far as to say that this version of the Dodgers is his favorite that he has ever managed.

In part, Roberts likely feels this way because of the perseverance of this roster. They were supposed to take a step back this year compared to years past, but instead, they have kept their foot on the gas.

LA currently is riding a a 17-2 streak in August and has broken open their NL West lead to 11.5 games. They now have the luxury to rest some players down the stretch, but they can’t get complacent. Roberts even spoke about how he doesn’t see this group of players letting that happen.

It’s a nice mixture of veteran players and younger talent. It has worked out very well for the Dodgers this season, and they are led by their two stars, Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman.

Roberts spoke about them and how they both have a desire to make everyone around them better each day.

“Typically superstar players don’t have or care to have … the bandwidth to make people around them better, because all their bandwidth and focus is taken up by their own performance, which is certainly needed. Those two guys just have an intrinsic desire to want to make their people, their teammates around them better.”

Per SNLA

It’s a great thing when your leaders help make others great as well. It’s an uplifting feeling as a teammate and makes others want to perform at a higher level.

Both Betts and Freeman are ‘lead by example’ type of guys, and their play on the field has spoken for itself. They both are currently in the running for the NL MVP award, and rightfully so.

The Dodgers wouldn’t be anywhere near where they are in the standings without their two All-Stars. The entire team goes as they do, and their consistency has been incredible to watch.
