Dodgers News: Dave Roberts Feels 2023 Postseason Squad is ‘Closer’ Than Last Years

With the playoffs officially underway, the Dodgers are aiming to redeem themselves from the issues that plagued them last season. LA knows what happened a year ago against the San Diego Padres, and they want to make sure that the same things don’t happen again.

But this is a different team, with many different players on the roster. They play with more of a team-first approach, and they’ve learned how to win different types of games throughout the season.

They also have a stronger chemistry throughout the locker room, and it has translated to a ton of success on the field, even if it didn’t quite work out in Game 1 of the NLDS. Before Saturday’s game, manager Dave Roberts gave his thoughts on the 2023 team, and he believes that they are much closer than last season.

“You know, it’s a different team. I think that, not to take anything away from the team that won, I don’t know what it was, 111 games, obviously very talented and successful team. This is a closer team. I think that with what happened last year and how quick the exit was, I still think that that looms with a lot of guys.”

This team plays for each other every single night. There are no egos on the roster, and they all are working toward the common goal of trying to win a World Series. It’s been incredible to see them grow as a unit over the course of the year, and now they feel like they can take on anything.

“As far as preparation, we try to ramp it up a little bit more as far as intensity, situational stuff.  So I felt we were ready last year.  And we won Game 1 and just ended up not winning another game after that. But I feel good. Baseball, it’s so unpredictable, and that’s why we can all have thoughts about this series. And no one knows until we play the game. So I feel good where we’re at.”

When something like last season happens, it tends to bring people together. The players that are still here remember that feeling, and they don’t want to feel that again.

But the baseball playoffs are essentially a crapshoot, so all LA can do is prepare themselves the best they can. If they play their game effectively, they should have a great shot to advance in the postseason this season.

The crapshoot continues on Monday at Dodger Stadium.
