Dodgers News: Dave Roberts Has Never Seen a Harder Worker Than Mookie Betts

Mookie Betts outdid himself again on Tuesday.

In the Los Angeles Dodgers’ 6-2 win over the Washington Nationals at Dodger Stadium, Betts recorded a five-hit game, meaning he tallied a hit on every at-bat he took during the win.

In total, Betts notched five hits, two runs and two RBIs in one of his best performances of the season. Even more impressive, these kind of games are practically par for the course for Betts this season. Since scoring the first home run of MLB this season, Betts got off to one of the best starts in the league. He’s gone .388/.490/.700 while tallying six home runs, 18 RBIs and three stolen bases.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts credited Betts’ work ethic for his success after his tremendous five-hit game.

“I’ve never seen anyone work as hard as he works before a game,” Roberts told reporters after the game. “I don’t know how he does it. You would think that he expends too much energy, but he’s just so mentally tough that he can handle it. He’s not a very physical guy, but it certainly hasn’t affected performance.”

Along with his hitting, Betts’ work ethic shows up in his defensive efforts as well. When Betts was moved to shortstop following the struggles of Gavin Lux, he immediately became determined to win a Gold Glove at the position.

While Betts has accomplished seemingly everything through his career as a World Series champion, former MVP and batting champion, a six-time Gold Glove winner and six-time Silver Slugger, this work ethic and performance should help cement his legacy among the greats of the sport when it’s all said and done.
