Dodgers News: Dave Roberts Non-Committal to Lance Lynn’s Role in Postseason

Entering the postseason, Dodger fans want to know what role Lance Lynn will have, but Dave Roberts isn’t ready to fully commit just yet. During August, Lynn was brilliant and gave the Dodgers what they needed. In September, he has been inconsistent.

Before Friday’s game against the San Francisco Giants, Roberts talked about Lynn to the media.

“I don’t know yet. I did have a conversation with him weeks ago as far as once we get to the postseason, everything’s on the table. Right now I see him as a starter but we’re going to have some conversations given who the potential opponent will be. But, right now he’s a starter.”

Lynn should start game 3 during the NLDS. At 36, he has experience on the big stage and knows how to handle the pressure. He won a world championship in 2011 with the St. Louis Cardinals. While this season he has been plagued by the home run ball, he knows how to win even without his best stuff.

Clayton Kershaw and Bobby Miller will start Games 1 and 2 of the NLDS, Roberts confirmed. Both Ryan Pepiot and Emmet Sheehan have shown an ability to pitch successfully after an opener. If Lynn struggles with his start, Roberts should yank him quickly and use one of the youngsters, preferably Sheehan since his incredible stuff differs greatly from Lynn’s.

With Pepiot’s ability to dominate the opposition, he should start Game 4 of the NLDS if necessary.

Despite so many injuries and factoring in the loss of their opening day starter, the Dodgers still seem to be in a good spot heading into October.
