Dodgers News: Dave Roberts Provides Huge Update on 3 Injured Relievers

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts provided an exciting update on three injured relievers on Friday.

Roberts said that right-handed pitchers Blake Treinen, J.P. Feyereisen and Daniel Hudson are all tracking to be on the active roster for the team’s regular season opener in Korea.

Hudson is a little behind Treinen and Feyereisen at this point in the spring.

Treinen and Feyereisen missed the entire 2023 season rehabbing shoulder injuries, while Hudson was able to make just three appearances before his season came to a disappointing end.

All three pitchers are attempting to make a return in 2024, though, and it sounds like they’re all making great progress.

Dodger fans are very familiar with both Treinen and Hudson.

Treinen, 35, has been with the Dodgers since 2020. The 2018 All-Star reliever in Oakland was dominant for L.A. in 2021, sporting a 1.99 ERA in 72 appearances.

He made just five appearances in 2022, and made just three appearances across Rookie Ball and Triple-A in 2023.

Hudson, 36, returned in June 2023 after suffering a setback in his recovery from a torn ACL. Then, after three appearances, he sprained his MCL, ending his season. All three appearances were scoreless.

Feyereisen, 31, is the biggest X-factor for L.A.

He was acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays in Dec. 2022, coming off a season in which he had 20 scoreless appearances. He told Dodgers Nation a few months back that he’s feeling healthy, and could be a huge addition to an already solid bullpen.

The Dodgers had a 3.42 bullpen ERA in 2023, good for third-best in Major League Baseball. This year, they have the pieces to be even better.

  1. Dave’s comment is interesting considering the Dodgers would seem to have 13 pitchers on the active roster without Daniel Hudson. Are the Friars and Dodgers allowed to carry more than 26 players because of jet lag? Yamamoto, Glasnow, Miller, Paxton, Sheehan, Yarbrough, Treinen, Feyresien, Vesia, Kelly, Brasier, Graterol, Phillips make 13 arms. Or are they already counting on an IL among them?

    1. Don’t they usually have 13 pitchers and 13 position players?
      Smith, Barnes
      Freeman
      Mookie
      Muncy
      Lux
      Rojas
      Teo
      Taylor
      Outman
      Heyward
      Marmot

  2. Blake Treinen if he is healthy and gets his speed back up this will be huge for the Dodgers this year and hope and pray he is healthy for the playoffs too, then it will be extremely worrisome for anyone that has to play the Dodgers.

  3. Understanding Kershaw is Very close with Barnes but friendship at this point affects Dodgers new quest for excellence takes Barnes off the Roster.
