Dodgers' Teoscar Hernández Reveals Shohei Ohtani’s Welcome Text Message

The Los Angeles Dodgers underwent a bit of a facelift this offseason, overwhelmingly for the better. After growing accustomed to early postseason exits, the Dodgers’ front office went on a spending spree to address the roster’s shortcomings.

Now, Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto will be here for the next decade. Tyler Glasnow is under contract through 2028. They join Freddie Freeman (2027) and Mookie Betts (2032) to give the Dodgers multiple star players under long-term contracts.

The offseason featured other, less heralded acquisitions that stand to benefit the 2024 team in particular. One of them: veteran outfielder and Silver Slugger award winner Teoscar Hernández.

The Dodgers needed an outfielder, one who could slug, and there was no better name than Hernández on the free-agent market. Along with this potent L.A. lineup, the 31-year-old is expected to take the Dodgers to even greater heights in October.

After spending all but 42 of his 811 games in the American League, Hernández is coming into a new environment. Adjusting to a new league could be challenging, and no one understands that better than Ohtani.

Which is why the three-time All-Star was among the first people to reach out to Hernández after the Dodgers signed him in early January. The one-time All-Star appeared on Flippin’ Bats with Ben Verlander and discussed his first interaction with the $700 million man.

“He asked me how it was. He said, ‘now we’re teammates, let’s go.’”

“From there, we just keep talking about regular things.”

Hernández and Ohtani have a chance to lead the Dodgers into their first of many World Series titles with this new-look team. It’s awesome to know Ohtani is being a great teammate from the bat and is leading by example.

On Flippin’ Bats, Hernández also shared his first impression of the two-time AL MVP.

“He gets really early to the field, starts doing things and 4 hours, 5 hours go by and he’s still doing something. He does not stop. He’s a really hard worker, and that’s why he does the things that he does.”

No one will outwork Ohtani. We’ve learned that pretty quickly in his short time with the Dodgers. The guy is on a different level, and it’s no surprise he is this great.

Hernández will try to absorb all he can from Ohtani while here.

We can’t wait to see these two hit dingers.
