Dodgers News: Dave Roberts Pushes Back on Clayton Kershaw’s Recent Statement

The MLB regular season will be coming to a close over the next few weeks, and now that the Los Angeles Dodgers have clinched the NL West title, they can really fine-tune things. They have the luxury to get some extra rest over the next few weeks, due to where they are in the standings.

It hasn’t been easy for this team this season, as they have dealt with adversity in their pitching staff all year long. LA has seen multiple pitchers go down with different injuries, or playing not performing up to their normal standards. But they have pushed through and now will get ready for the postseason.

One of their more consistent pitchers has been veteran left-hander Clayton Kershaw. He has helped stabilize this team this season, while others in the rotation have been in flux.

Recently Kershaw made some comments about him needing to prove his worth for a postseason start, due to a poor performance. But manager Dave Roberts shot that down pretty quickly, and commented on the plan for Kershaw going forward.

“I don’t think, for me, it’s a tryout for Clayton,” Roberts said. “I think his body of work, as recent as this year, speaks to how we trust him and value him. For me, it’s just a matter of where he’s at physically, and if he feels good physically, we’re going to run him out there.”

Per The OC Register

On the year, Kershaw holds an ERA of 2.52 and a record of 12-4. He has also added in 127 strikeouts over 121.1 innings of work. Roberts continued his thoughts on the future Hall-of-Famer.

“I want him to go out there and compete like he does, and I’m going to watch the stuff,” Roberts said hours before the future Hall of Famer threw four scoreless innings (56 pitches). “I’m gonna watch the swings and make a decision accordingly to win the game. So I really don’t have the expectation, if it’s two innings or it’s six innings. So I’m gonna go out there and watch every throw.”

Per The OC Register

Kershaw looked good in a short outing against the Seattle Mariners this weekend, and he will look to continue the strong performance down the stretch of the season. The veteran is going to be counted on heavily once again this year, and they will need him to step up in a major way come October.
