Dodgers News: Dustin May Heading for Surgery, Done for Season

The Dodgers were dealt a huge blow on this July 4th holiday as they announced young starting pitcher Dustin May would be undergoing season-ending surgery on his right elbow. The surgery will take place on July 18, and will be done by Dr. Neal ElAttrache.

This is such tough news for May, who was off to a great start this season in his first full year back from the Tommy John surgery he underwent in May of 2021.

The Dodgers were hoping that May was finally going to be fully healthy, and take the leap in 2023 with all the injuries behind him.

However, this didn’t end up being the case, as May was forced to exit his May 17 start after just one inning, and we now know that will be his final outing of the year.

May throws with such force that many believed he would need to change the way he threw after having Tommy John surgery. He continued to throw the same way this year, but after just six weeks, his season ultimately came to an end.

We wish the best to Dustin as he recovers from his second major surgery on his right elbow.

May is still just 25 years old, and has so much potential with some of the nastiest stuff in baseball. However, in sports, the greatest ability is availability, and unfortunately for May, he’s just unable to stay healthy.

Hopefully May has a speedy recovery, and is back next year ready for a fully healthy season.

But for now, the Dodgers will have to continue to work without him, which leaves an even larger hole in their already thin starting rotation.
