Dodgers News: Former World Series Champ Matt Beaty Elects to Leave the Padres

Matt Beaty’s tenure with the San Diego Padres didn’t last very long.

After spending most of the year on the Injured List and in Triple-A, Beaty had just 43 at-bats in 20 games with the Padres. He went 4-43 (.093) with zero home runs and one RBI.

Rather than being sent back down to Triple-A, Beaty instead chose to enter free agency.

Beaty was a 12th-round pick in 2015 by the Dodgers, and made his debut with the team in 2019. He hit .262 across his three seasons in LA, and was a member of the 2020 World Series Champions.

The Dodgers elected to trade Beaty within the division back in March, and acquired minor-league pitcher River Ryan.

Ryan went 1-3 with a 2.67 ERA and 48 strikeouts in 10 starts with the Single-A Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. Since being promoted to High-A, Ryan is 1-1 with a 1.93 ERA and 22 strikeouts in just 14 innings.

The Padres are currently fighting for a Wild Card spot, as the Dodgers officially locked up the NL West on Tuesday.

As for Beaty, he’ll look for another home over the last few weeks of the season, as he tries to lock up a spot on a 2023 roster.

  1. I hope that he signs with the Braves. He’s from Georgia, and it makes the most sense for him.

    1. Judi. Dodgers wanted to see how Outman produced. We have too many outfielders under contract and for now he will have to wait for 2023.

  2. I love Matt !!!! Hope he finds a home where he is happy and able to play on a regular basis. I wish him good health too !!!!
