Dodgers News: Freddie Freeman’s Dad Drops Words of Wisdom After Just Missing Out on Record Season

Freddie Freeman just completed one of the best regular seasons of his incredible career. Despite winning an MVP in a shortened 2020 season, Freeman put up the best numbers in his 14 years in the league.

Freeman set a career-high in average, OPS hits and on-base percentage. With all these significant accomplishments Freeman completed this year, he still misses out on one thing.

The Dodgers first baseman set the team record for doubles in a regular season. Even though he made team history, Freeman came one double short of becoming the seventh player ever with 60 doubles in a season.

Although he was not worried about trying to get to the milestone towards the end of the season, Freeman was still disappointed that he was unable to reach the accomplishment.

Through all the disappointment, Freeman said his family reached out to let him know that they were still proud of the historic season he had.

“I saw a text from my wife and my dad (after the game), and I think my dad said, ‘If you would’ve told me those numbers at the beginning of the year, sign me up,’” Freeman said. “I think the best thing is I’ve never done 200 hits, 90 extra-base hits. Those are pretty cool.
“I’m going to look forward to Saturday. But maybe January when we’re talking at FanFest, we can talk about the season.”

Freeman set the Dodgers team record for doubles with 53 on September 9th. In the remaining three weeks in the season, he added on six doubles, but was unable to get the final one in his last couple of games.

Now Freeman is looking forward to continuing his career year into the postseason. During last year’s playoffs, Freeman was one of the Dodgers’ best hitters as he hit .357 in the team’s four game NLDS loss to the Padres.

The Dodgers will need another big postseason out of the veteran if the team wants to get far in the playoffs.

  1. Freddie has established himself already as one of the all-time consummate Dodgers of this great franchise.

After a turbulent transition period during contract negotiations with his former team, and through no fault of his own, Mr Freeman has won over the hearts and minds of the Dodger fan base and no doubt will remain a Dodger for the rest of his career. ???
