Dodgers News: Gonsolin Reflects on His Game 3 Performance

After such a dominant regular season, the Dodgers were expected to carry that energy into October.

Clearly, that plan hasn’t worked all that well. Now down 1-2 with an elimination game coming up, the Dodgers have their back against the wall again.

Friday night’s game opened up with Tony Gonsolin on the mound who was once the team’s ace but after dealing with a forearm strain that kept him out for six weeks, the Cat Man has struggled to find his groove again.

This was only his second start since he returned from the IL where he spent all of September on. In his last outing on October 3rd, he allowed 1 run on 3 hits and struck out three across two innings.

For Game 3 of the NLDS, Dave Roberts only expected him to go 75 innings. But it wasn’t long before Doc was ready to pull the plug on Tony Gonslin after 1 and one-third innings.

Gonsolin allowed 4 hits, 1 run, 1 error, and walked one of his nine batters faced. The damage being minimalized to only a run was a miracle after his rough start against the Padres.

“I just wasn’t throwing strikes,” said Gonsolin said after the team’s 2-1 loss. “I fell behind a lot of guys and got into a lot of 3-2 counts. I walked a few people, didn’t execute pitches, and they got the best of me.”

Left-hander Andrew Heaney took over for Gonsolin to finish out the second inning and went on to strike out 4 batters, and only allow 1 run on three hits in his 3 innings.

The Dodgers’ bullpen took over to close out the game holding the Padres scoreless for the remaining 4 innings.

The Dodgers will face the Padres in Game 4 of the NLDS on Saturday night where southpaw Tyler Anderson will go head-to-head with Joe Musgrove. The game is set to start at 6:30 PT on FS1.

LA has to win tonight or they go home empty-handed and this season might just go down as one of the biggest upsets yet. Let’s just hope Tyler gets the job done and the bats can finally back him up this game.

  1. This loss was not because of pitching, they only scored one run. Dodger bench of Gallo, Taylor (now slumping), Vargas not like when we had David Freese, Utley, Pederson, KiKi, etc
