Dodgers News: James Outman Picks Up Another Rookie of the Month Award in 2023
The Dodgers have been the beneficiaries of one of the most talented rookies in this season’s class in James Outman.
Originally from Northern California, Outman was a seventh-round pick in the 2018 draft. He played just four games in the big leagues last year before making the jump this season. It’s safe to say the decision to incorporate Outman as a day-in, day-out starter was a good one.
Outman was awarded his second NL Player of the Month award for his performance in August. In the Dodgers’ most productive month of the season, Outman hit .277/.408/.482 with five home runs and 15 RBIs.
Outman, who also won the award in April, had to change his swing over multiple years to get it in prime shape to have success in the major leagues. His Single-A manager John Shoemaker had high praise for Outman’s work ethic.
“I don’t think anyone on our team took more swings in the batting cage to try to perfect his craft than James did,” Shoemaker said.

The Dodgers are in a prime position to have success in the 2023 playoffs, and Outman will be a key component in their path to another World Series title. While there is no question that Freddie Freeman and Mookie Betts are the backbone of this team, there is no question that Outman has the experience and confidence to take things into his own hands if need be.
