Former Dodger Cody Bellinger Reportedly Seeking Huge Money This Offseason; Giants and Padres Could Be in Market
After a massive comeback season for former Dodgers outfielder Cody Bellinger, he should be in line for a big payday this winter. Bellinger will be one of the hottest names on the market this offseason and could have interest from multiple suitors.
While the Dodgers won’t be one of them in all likelihood, two of their rivals very well could be. According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, both the San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants are expected to show interest in signing the former National League MVP.
“The price-tag will be heavy, exceeding $200 million, perhaps even seeking more than $300 million. The most aggressive suitors are expected to be: The Cubs, San Francisco Giants, San Diego Padres and New York Yankees.”
Per Bob Nightengale of USA Today
Bellinger and the Yankees have been linked together for a long time, but New York may not be able to fix all their problems by throwing money at one player. They would be better suited to go in a different route, freeing Bellinger up for others.
In all honesty, the Cubs make the most sense for his services. He seems very comfortable in Chicago and has spoken about how much he likes Wrigley Field. It also helps things that Chicago is in a position to make a wild-card spot, and possibly even the NL Central.
But the threat of both the Giants and Padres looms large. The Padres may be in a similar situation as the Yankees, but that hasn’t ever stopped them from going after the shiny player before.
But San Francisco could believe that Bellinger is the missing piece to help get them over the top. Especially, if the Giants were to lose out in the Shohei Ohtani sweepstakes, they could pivot over to Bellinger and offer him a ton of money.
Either way, Bellinger will get paid this offseason, and rightfully so. He is currently hitting .319 with 22 home runs and 81 runs batted in.
His resurgence has been impressive to see, and he has been a driving force to the Cubs’ success all year long.

Yeah, I’m happy that Cody has turned it around. But as Dodger fans, we’ve moved on from him. Outman is the real thing and way cheaper.
Bellinger will cost more than 30 times as much per year as Outman for the next two years [$21 – $25 million v $700,000], then up to 10 times as much in the 3d year, 5 times as much in the 4th year out from 2024. Spend that money saved by keeping Outman in center field, not signing Bellinger [$20 – $25 million/year difference] on Yamamoto or use it toward signing Ohtani.
If the money is equal and Belli chooses the Padres or Giants that’s going to feel like a gigantic F*** You to the Dodgers. But the Padres will probably overpay by $100 million to get him just like they did with Bogaerts. I’ll hate seeing Belli in either one of those ugly ass uniforms. I’m hoping he stays put in Chicago. That feels like a great fit for him.
LOL, He needs to prove himself for another season. Power way down, just having a lucky year. Hope the Padres sign him hahahahahaha
Whomever signs him will regret it.
