Dodgers News: James Outman Reflects on Big Return to Coors Field

When the Dodgers decided not to offer Cody Bellinger a contract, Dodger fans wondered who would replace Bellinger in center field. It has been a pleasure to watch James Outman mature as a player. While he struggled during May and June, Dave Roberts’ trust in Outman didn’t waiver. Now, Outman plays an integral role in the Los Angeles Dodger lineup.

In 2022, Outman made his major league debut and hit a home run in his first at-bat at Coors Field.

“I think it’s nice coming back to a place that holds a special place in your heart. But other than that, we’re just trying to win some games.”

When Outman made the Opening Day roster, many Dodger fans were surprised. During April, Outman helped the Dodgers win many games. He earned the National League Rookie of the Month honors.

As usual, the league adjusted, exploiting Outman’s weaknesses. He struggled even to buy a hit, but he consistently worked with coaches and listened to Jason Heyward’s guidance.

After the All-Star break, Outman regularly contributes offensively. Defensively, he routinely makes spectacular catches, usually preventing many potential winning runs.

“I’ve been working with the coaches and just been trying to get myself into a more consistent spot and thanks to a couple of my teammates, talking about timing and stuff like that. I think other than that, having a good mindset at the plate and being relaxed.”

Undoubtedly, Outman will make his presence felt during the postseason.
