Dodgers News: Jason Heyward Hopes to Return to LA in 2024

Not many around the Dodgers are focused on anything other than the upcoming playoffs, but there has been some thought to how the organization wants to play the offseason. The players and coaching staff aren’t focused on that, but the front office sure is.

LA has seen much success this season, and a lot of that success comes from the smaller moves that they made last winter. One of the biggest was signing veteran Jason Heyward to a minor league contract.

Heyward saw a resurgence in his career this season, and it really helped propel the Dodgers. After signing a minor league deal to join LA, Heyward turned out to be one of the most impactful players for the team.

His leadership across the organization has been nothing short of amazing, and he has also produced on the field. He will be a free agent when the season comes to an end, but he has expressed a desire to return to the team if they’ll have him.

“I would love to be asked to come back,” Heyward said. “If they feel like I’m valuable to be back here, that would be an honor.”

Per The LA Times

Heyward could provide extra depth for the Dodgers next season, and they already know what he brings to the table. He would be a solid signing for LA to bring back, and the pairing seems to work well together.

He just wants to win, and at this later stage of his career, LA can provide him an opportunity to do just that. Heyward also feels comfortable in LA, and that makes a big difference for any player.

“That’s what’s really cool [about this team],” Heyward said. “It sounds simple, but to me, winning and playing to win has made everything that much more simple. It’s like, ‘Hey, what are we focused on today? Winning.’ And a lot of good things come from that.”

Per The LA Times

Nobody knows what the Dodgers roster will look like next season, but Heyward would give them another piece toward continuity. LA has consistently overhauled their depth players in recent years, so Heyward would give them some familiarity.

Bringing Heyward back makes all the sense in the world, but for now, the team is looking ahead to the playoffs starting this weekend. The time to discuss contracts will be coming up soon, and hopefully, it will see the veteran stay in Los Angeles for next season.
