Dodgers News: Dave Roberts Did Not Envision 100 Win Season Following Tumultuous Offseason

The 2023 season was supposed to be the year that the Dodgers were overtaken in the NL West. It was supposed to be the year that they fought for a potential Wild Card spot.

After losing a ton of talent last winter and a lackluster offseason, many believed it was finally time that the Dodgers came back to reality. But it seems that their memo got lost in the mail.

Instead, LA came out swinging and ended up with the third-best record in baseball. It wasn’t always pretty, especially early on, but it worked.

Manager Dave Roberts spoke about what he envisioned for this team entering the year, and it certainly wasn’t them winning 100 games once again.

“Probably not,” Roberts said. “Our expectation was to win the division, but given the division and the talent and the parity as far as the balanced schedule, it was hard to foresee this. Especially given all the stuff that we had to go through. But I’m proud of our guys. Man, they just never wavered.”

It’s not that Roberts didn’t have faith in his players, but rather that it’s extremely difficult to win 100 games in a season. The fact that the Dodgers did it this season speaks volumes to how well-run of an organization they are, and it’s a testament to everyone involved.

Roberts really showed how good of a manager he was this season. For all the criticism that he has received over the years, he gave his all to managing this team.

Now, as the Dodgers enter the playoffs, the real test begins. They have the look of a title contender, and have a chance to finish the job.

This team has been special all season long and has continued to defy expectations for themselves. The hope is that they can finish the year with another World Series win, one that would mean something a little extra to everyone.
