Dodgers News: Jay-Z Looks To Add Yasiel Puig As Next MLB Client
Rapper and former Nets minority owner Jay-Z has made the transition into the sports world as a sports agent and has started RocNation Sports.
Jay-Z already has New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz, Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano and Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant on his client list.
According to Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports, he’s already identified a new client target after meeting Yasiel Puig while the Dodgers were in New York to play the Yankees:
“During a mid-June trip to New York, Puig was invited to a party at a club Jay-Z owns after a Dodgers teammate passed along the rapper’s contact information, one source said. Between the lifestyle and marketing plan offered by Roc Nation Sports, Puig left the meeting intrigued.”
Puig has identified Cano as one of his idols in baseball and was in his Twitter picture during the Dodgers trip to the Bronx.
Cano is set to become a free agent next year and it’s been assumed that Jay-Z’s ties to New York would keep the All-Star in pinstripes. However, if Puig leaves his agent and signs with Jay-Z, there’s a chance he’ll start whispering in Cano’s ear about joining him in Los Angeles.
If Puig does leave his agent Jaime Torres, he would receive the full commission of the seven-year $42 million contract he negotiated with the Dodgers according to the report.
