Dodgers News: Joe Kelly Reinstated From Injured List, Kyle Hurt Optioned

As expected, a Dodger fan-favorite is making his return to the bullpen after a lengthy absence. On Wednesday, pitcher Joe Kelly is being reinstated from the injured list.

Kelly went down with injury four games into his second tenure with the team. He suffered right forearm inflammation and was placed on the IL on August 13th.

The Dodgers acquired Kelly from the White Sox in a trade deadline move that involved Lance Lynn coming to LA and Trayce Thompson and prospects going to Chicago.

In four appearances post-trade deadline, Kelly did not give up a run in 3.2 innings of work. In that short amount of time, the fireballer struck out seven batters and walked three of them.

Kelly will be important for the Dodgers when it comes to the playoffs. He was a part of the team that won the World Series in 2020. He has a lot of postseason experience that could help out the Dodgers pitching staff that is getting younger.

In a corresponding move to bring Kelly back to the team, the Dodgers sent down Kyle Hurt back to the minors.

Hurt made his major league debut Tuesday night and impressed everyone. As someone who only has six appearances in Triple-A, Hurt took care of the Padres lineup in two innings of work.

One of the best strikeout guys in the minors this year was able to translate to the MLB as he struck out three batters.

Manager Dave Roberts mentioned how, despite being called up late in the season, Hurt was not a part of the teams plans for the postseason.

Now Hurt will continue to develop in the minors, but at least the Dodgers got a sneak peek of the future of the team’s pitching staff.
