Dodgers News: Dave Roberts Believes Freddie Freeman Deserves More MVP Love

With the MLB season coming to a close in a few weeks, the race for the season awards has started to really pick up. The competition for the National League MVP award seemingly is a four-man, two-team race.

Dodgers Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman are both top candidates, while Ronald Acuna Jr. and Matt Olson of the Atlanta Braves are as well. It’s an interesting way for the ballots to shake out, but it is also fitting that the players come from two of the best teams in the game.

While Betts and Acuna may be the headliners, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts believes that Freeman deserves more love in the MVP discussion.

“There’s no self-promotion to (Freeman’s) game. He just loves to compete and wins,” said Roberts. “When you’re talking about most valuable players, for me, he is right there at the top of the conversation.”

His consistency all season long has been the biggest part of his incredible year. He has shown up each game and provided LA with everything that they could have asked for.

On the year, Freeman is hitting .339 with 26 home runs and 93 runs batted in. But don’t ask Freeman about his strong 2023 season, as he only wants to focus on winning the World Series, and not on individual statistics.

“I’m not going to talk about any specific numbers,” he said. “We can do that after the season. But I’ve been having a pretty good year, and we’ve got three more weeks to go.”

Per Dodgers Insider

Freeman is on pace to hit the 200-hit mark for the season, and if he does, he would become only the third player in MLB history to have 200 hits, 25 home runs, 55 doubles and 120 runs scored in a season.

It’s been a quiet MVP year for Freeman, but he wouldn’t have it any other way. He is in the business of showing up to lead by example. He isn’t flashy but rather lets his bat do the talking for him.

The Dodgers have found major success since signing Freeman, and now the ultimate goal is to bring home the World Series. LA will be relying on their All-Star down the stretch of the season to help complete the mission.
