Dodgers News: Dave Roberts Hints at Kyle Hurt Being Sent Down on Wednesday

Dodgers RHP Kyle Hurt had an impressive MLB debut on Tuesday night against the San Diego Padres.

Hurt, who got to Dodger Stadium around 6:45 p.m. — just 25 minutes before first pitch — came on in the eighth inning to face a couple guys you’ve probably heard of before.

First it was Fernando Tatis Jr. Then it was Juan Soto. And then it was Manny Machado. That’s about as tough as a 1-2-3 you can face in this league, and Hurt retired them in order.

Then, Hurt came back out for the ninth inning, where he struck out the side in order. Six up, six down and three strikeouts, in as good an MLB debut as you can have.

Before the game, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts made it clear that Hurt was not auditioning for a postseason roster spot, and instead just giving the team’s arms a rest.

However, with the way he pitched, it would be hard for LA to just send him right back down to Triple-A. At least that’s what we thought.

After the game, Roberts still hinted at the fact that Hurt would likely be optioned as soon as Wednesday, to make room for the returning Joe Kelly.

“He did what he could do, what we hoped he could do, and we’re going to sit back and figure out what we’re gonna do,” Roberts said. “We have Joe Kelly coming back, so there is a decision that needs to be made. But it was good to see Kyle throw so well.”

While Roberts didn’t say Hurt would be sent down, it definitely sounds like that’s going to be the case. While the 25-year-old was very impressive in his MLB debut, it doesn’t sound like he’s going to get a shot at a postseason spot barring any injuries.

Either way, it was an incredible debut for Hurt, and one he’ll never forget. If he does get sent down on Wednesday, we can’t wait to see him back on the Dodger Stadium mound.

  1. this guy comes in and throws strikes…unlike the rest of this joke of a pitching staff…..we better send him down LOL!!!

  2. I don’t understand how some of these scrubs stay up but Hurt gets through the Pads like they were the A’s. He’s got the power arm the Dodgers need
