Dodgers News: LA Acquiring Kiké Hernández From Boston Red Sox

The Dodgers are acquiring former LA fan favorite Kiké Hernández from the Boston Red Sox, MLB insider Ken Rosenthal reported. The return is not yet announced, but Hernández will be returning to the team he spent six years of his career with.

This doesn’t exactly come out of nowhere, as Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reported that the Dodgers were interested in a reunion. Now, just days later, the deal comes to fruition.

Hernández reportedly told Boston reporters, “I’m going home,” before the deal was announced.

The Dodgers have an obvious need for a right-handed bat who can hit lefties, but it’s unclear how much of an upgrade Hernández is. On the year, he has an OPS of just .652 against lefties with one home run and seven runs batted in.

The Dodgers definitely have a plan in place to get him back to being at least an average hitter against left-handed pitching, but we’ll see if he’s the only upgrade they make. At the very least, he’ll add depth around the infield and outfield, and be a great locker room presence.

Hernández is in the final year of his deal, and will be a free agent after this season.

The Dodgers and Red Sox play August 25-27 in Boston. Suddenly, that’ll be a reunion for Hernández.

  1. Love this guy. He’ll be a great clubhouse presence for the team as well. Can we bring JT back home with him? 😉

    Welcome home Kike!

  2. ” Im going home…”. That brought a rush of emotion thru me just now! He’ll help, at least a little in the post. And filling in for our injury plagued team! He doesn’t get hurt either.
