Dodgers News: LA Adds Former Astros OF Jake Marisnick on MLB Deal

The Dodgers have addressed one of the teams biggest needs on the roster by adding a veteran right handed bat.

The team signed outfielder Jake Marisnick to a big league deal on Thursday, per Kenny Van Doren on Twitter. Marisnick was designated for assignment earlier this week by the Tigers.

Marisnick has not played a lot this year. Through 41 games, he’s hitting .225 with two home runs and an OPS of .672.

The 32-year old will provide more depth in the Dodgers lineup. So far the only right handed bats that have consistently performed so far this season hav been Mookie Betts, Will Smith and J.D. Martinez. If the Dodgers are going to make a run in the postseason, they are going to have to get more consistent play form the right side of the plate.

The Dodgers will be the seventh team that Marisnick has played for since 2019. Dodgers fans know Marisnick best for being a part of the 2017 Astros World Series team. The Astros defeated the Dodgers in seven games to win the title, although Marisnick wasn’t with them in the postseason — he had the best year of his career, though, that regular season.

Players from that team have been taking criticism from Dodgers fans since the news broke that the team was stealing signs during the 2017 World Series. With the addition of Marisnick, fan will most likely have mixed feelings about the new Dodgers bat — he’s just the second member of that team to sign with LA, joining Tyler White.

While Marisnick is not the best right-handed bat available leading up to the trade deadline, getting someone with some MLB experience into the lineup is what the Dodgers need for now.

We’ll see how much of an opportunity he gets, but signing him to an MLB deal means they clearly expect him to play.

  1. Are you kidding?!?! The only good fight handed bats are Mookie and JD?? There is a pretty excellent right handed batter by the name of Smith. Ever hear of him???????
