Dodgers News: LA Insider Confirms Julio Urias Will Not Return in 2024

Julio Urias is officially entering free agency this offseason as 2023 was his final year under contract with the Dodgers.

Urias was expected to get a massive payday as an ace-level pitcher entering free agency at just 27 years old, however, he’s currently under investigation for a domestic violence incident that occurred in early September.

Urias never returned to the mound for LA this season and now enters an offseason of uncertainty as his investigation continues.

It has been assumed that Urias’ time with the Dodgers had come to an end, and J.P. Hoornstra of the Orange County Register confirmed it in a recent article.

“[Urias] will not be re-signed after ending the season on administrative leave while MLB investigates a domestic violence incident.”

It remains to be seen if Urias signs with any team this offseason, but it’ll likely depend on how the investigation goes. But Hoornstra all but ruled out the proposition of him returning to LA, and the team removing his murals from Dodger Stadium towards the end of the season all but confirmed that.

For what it’s worth, Roberts was asked about Urias’ future with the club in the beginning of October ahead of the NLDS and had this to say:

“As far as what the future holds,” Roberts said, “I have no idea.”
