Dodgers News: LA Prospect Michael Busch Parlaying Consistency to Success

After spending some time in the big leagues earlier this season, Dodgers prospect Michael Busch is finding out new ways to find success down at the minor league level.

In Triple-A Oklahoma City this season, Busch is hitting .313 with an OPS of .938. On top of that, Busch is showing that he can be a run producer as he has seven home runs and 38 RBIs on the season.

Busch had a solid season with Oklahoma City last year in the 111 games he played after being promoted. He was able to slug 27 home runs and 78 RBIs but his batting average dipped to .266.

Now that he is dominating in Triple-A this season, Busch has figured out what it is that is making him so successful this season.

“I think it’s just consistency for me. I struggled with that a little bit in the past and just trying to stay consistent. You’re going to have your downs, you’re going to have your ebbs and flows. Just trying to bounce out of those as quickly as possible. It’s worked out for me a little bit.”

In the 19 at-bats Busch had with the Dodgers earlier in the season, his success did not totally translate as he only notched four hits. However, he did have some clutch ones, and showed that he could compete at the big league level.

As the No. 3 prospect in the Dodgers organization, Busch is sure to be up again and prove that he belongs in the major leagues — probably sooner rather than later.

In the meantime, Busch will continue to work on what’s best for his success in the minors and keep building on that.

“There’s big things and little things, I think the little things for me is just having a routine on the on deck circle but also in the box. You know, just before you get in there after a pitch happens, while you’re on deck, kind of just having a routine just to kind of know you’re doing the same thing every time,” Busch said. “For me, I feel like when I get too comfortable sometimes I start to chase a little more so whether it’s good or bad, just trying to stay consistent and just trying to have a routine. I don’t know how much it affects me but just trying to stay in that same zone.”
