Dodgers News: Max Muncy Heads to Injured List With Hamstring Strain, Michael Busch Recalled

The Dodgers have made the roster move they were hoping didn’t have to come on Friday, officially placing Max Muncy on the injured list with his low-grade hamstring strain. The move is retroactive to Tuesday, when he injured his hamstring in his final at-bat running to first base to leg out a double play. With Muncy out, top hitting prospect Michael Busch has been recalled from Triple-A.

Dave Roberts has said all week that he was hoping Muncy would avoid the IL, but, in classic Dodger fashion, the injury was clearly worse than they made it seem. So, Muncy, who hasn’t played since Sunday, will now be out for the next couple weeks as he recovers from his hamstring strain.

Busch is now back in the majors, after getting sent down last month when J.D. Martinez was activated off the injured list. He went 4-for-19 with two runs batted in, and had a few big hits during his short stint with the Dodgers.

Then, he went back to Triple-A Oklahoma City, and absolutely raked. In 176 at-bats at Triple-A this season, Busch is hitting .313 with seven home runs, 38 runs batted in and an OPS of .968. Over the last week in OKC, Busch slashed .500/.533/1.077 on his way to winning the Player of the Week Award.

Hopefully Muncy is able to rest up for the next week-plus and get right back to the big leagues as soon as possible. But for now, Busch will get another opportunity to show what he can do at the major league level.
