Dodgers News: Max Muncy Exits Game vs Reds Early for Unknown Reason

Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy has been removed from Tuesday’s game against the Reds in Cincinnati.

Muncy struck out in the top of the seventh inning, and ended up being replaced by Chris Taylor at third base in the bottom half of the inning.

We don’t know why Muncy was removed and we obviously don’t want to speculate, but we hope it’s not due to an injury, and instead for defensive reasons.

Muncy had been struggling at third base defensively, already with two errors in the game. So there’s a chance the Dodgers just wanted the defensive replacement, especially considering Muncy would likely get just one more at-bat at most in the game.

However, if that wasn’t the case, then the only possible reason we could imagine would be that maybe he was a little banged up from that throw from Jason Heyward that hit off his chest and ended up being his second error of the game.

That would be the only obvious play in which he could have sustained some sort of minor injury, unless it’s a similar issue to the Trayce Thompson one where he got hurt swinging the bat.

But again, we have no idea why he was removed from the game, and it could just be for as simple a reason as the team wanted Taylor in for defense. We just wanted to lay out all the possible reasons we could think of.

We’ll continue to update you when we know more, which should be via manager Dave Roberts after the game. But for now, we’ll hope that it was just for defensive purposes, and Muncy has no potential issue.

  1. Well, it’s probably for defensive reasons, Max can hit but can’t field very well. Max was at 1st base for a reason, prior to bringing over Freddie. Reminds me of why the Dodgers moved Garvey to 1st from 3rd.
