Dodgers News: Michael Busch Called Up as Max Muncy Heads to Paternity List

The Dodgers’ most fierce opponent this season may be the paternity list. First, it was Mookie Betts heading on paternity leave. Then, it was Evan Phillips. Then, this morning, Brusdar Graterol went on paternity leave. And now, a few hours after Graterol, it was reported that Max Muncy was heading to the paternity list. In his absence, the Dodgers are calling up No. 3 ranked prospect Michael Busch, per Jorge Castillo of the LA Times.

Obviously, this is very nice news for all these Dodger players. We wish the best to Muncy and his wife, Kellie, and can’t wait for Muncy to be back soon! Muncy must have been feeling left out, so he’s now joined the long list of teammates on the paternity list.

The Dodgers will definitely miss Muncy in the lineup, as he has been red hot over the last few weeks, currently leading the MLB with 11 home runs. However, he’ll likely miss just a couple games, and now Busch is getting an opportunity in the big leagues — something many fans have been calling for early this season.

In Triple-A this season, Busch has had 83 at-bats, and is slashing .337/.461/.506 with two home runs and 16 RBIs. He also has eight doubles, has drawn 18 walks and has played first, second and third base. He also has minor league experience in the outfield.

Busch has played great baseball, and has earned this call up. Hopefully he gets a real chance to play over these next few days, and potentially earns some more time with the big league club.

As for the lineup, without Muncy, the Dodgers will need more guys in the back of the lineup to step up. The Dodgers are getting set for a series with the 16-7 Pittsburgh Pirates, who have won seven games in a row. Without Muncy, and without Will Smith, who remains out with his concussion, the Dodgers will be missing two of the lineup’s key contributors.

But again, the most important thing here is wishing congratulations to Max and Kellie!

  1. So who plays 3rd while Muncy missing? Busch is a good defensive 2nd baseman. Busch only played 9 games at 3rd – 3 rerrors. No rerrors at 2nd so far this year – and with twice the opportunities as compared to 3rd. So maybe they will sit Busch and play Tayor (when he is ready), Williams or Yonny – maybe give Mookie a chance – he probably would do quite well.

  2. need to leave bush on big league team . he can play some 3rd,2nd, and lf,. we need his bat send someone down or dfa someone as long as it aint muncy, freeman, betts ,outman , smith, vargas, take your pick of the rest but you need busch!!!!!
