Dodgers News: Michael Busch to Work on Adding Versatility in Key Area for LA

Top hitting prospect Michael Busch had a nice showing with the Dodgers this spring. In 13 games, the slugger hit .290 with 2 doubles, 2 home runs, and 4 runs batted in. He put together a .937 OPS in 36 plate appearances. He also mostly appeared at first base.

The Dodgers sort of have a guy there.

With that in mind, it looks like the plan with Busch is to add to his versatility.

As a professional, Busch has played mostly second base with games sprinkled in at first and in left field. He pretty much played exclusively first in his time at North Carolina. So the idea of third base is quite the experiment.

The Dodgers have Freddie Freeman locked in for five more seasons at first base and they’re all in on Miguel Vargas as the second baseman of the future.

Busch can hit, there’s no denying that, but he has nowhere to play in LA. A bit more versatility not only makes him more attractive to the Dodgers but to 29 other teams at the trade deadline. He’s already 25 and has proven himself at the minor league level (52 homers, .875 OPS over the last two seasons).

  1. Is the reason for time at 3rd due to the concerns about Muncy’s continued struggles? Muncy continues to struggle at the plate and his defense last night was not good.

I do wish the best for Muncy and hope that he gets back on track but, if not….
