Dodgers News: Michael Grove Activated Off Injured List, Gavin Stone Optioned to Triple-A

The Los Angeles Dodgers have officially activated RHP Michael Grove off the injured list, giving him about 10 days or so to audition for a spot on the postseason roster.

To make room on the active roster, Gavin Stone has been sent back down to Triple-A, virtually ending his season.

This has been a rollercoaster of a season for Grove. He entered spring training with no expectations, but quickly entered a battle for the No. 5 spot in the starting rotation when Tony Gonsolin turned his ankle.

Grove lost the battle to Ryan Pepiot, but when Pepiot injured his oblique, it was Grove who found himself on the Opening Day roster.

Grove lasted just four starts before going on the injured list, and didn’t return until June. He then made 11 more appearances — three out of the pen — before going back on the IL.

Grove’s last appearance showed tons of promise, as he struck out four of the five batters he faced as an opener against the San Diego Padres.

However, an injury sent him on the IL, where he’s been ever since.

Grove looked good in his few rehab appearances, warranting a potential audition for October. However, it seems unlikely he gets that opportunity, unless he’s absolutely lights out in his few relief/opener appearances the rest of this season.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts did say on Friday that the team is “going to give him every opportunity” to potentially make the postseason roster, so we’ll see if he’s able to seize it.
